What kind of guitar and set up do you use for this project ? The guitar used on this CD was the same as the one used on the previous CD: an old Martin HD-28 from the seventies. This guitar just sounds definitely great. But of course, a big part of this sound is the gauge of the strings I use: a "light" set, ranging from 012 to 054. I love the D'angelico Bronze Wound strings, but unfortunately they are more and more hard to find in Belgium, and even in Europa, so I try other brands now: Martin for example, which sounds great too ! What about amplification ? On stage, I use the Fishman system to amplify the guitar: one microphone inside the guitar, and one piezzo, blended in the small external Fishman "Pocket Blender". This system was installed on my Martin more than ten years ago and it works perfectly fine. From this Pocket Blender, I send the signal directly to the mixing table, and I send it also to my AER combo 60, which I use as a monitor. Recently, I bought another identical AER, just to have the sound in stereo on the stage. And I experiment with a new tc-electronic G-natural multi-effect I have. I might use it for the next CD if I find some effect that add something interesting to the natural sound without disturbing it. So you are not an absolute "pure sound" fan ? I strongly believe that most of the sound is made from the musician's hand, more than anything else. The sound of this guitar fits perfectly what I'm waiting for from an instrument. Under my hands, the sound is ample enough to fill the space, deep enough to make me travel in the sky, travel into my heart as deep as possible. But if an electronic device can help me going deeper into the music, why not ? My guitar vibrates in harmony with my heart and express what I feel, transforming my feelings into sound. That's also the reason why I wanted to call this serie of CD's "The He art of the Acoustic Guitar". Tell us something about the instrument the other musicians play ? Bruno Castellucci plays on Yamaha Recording Serie, Sabian Duo Ride cymbals and Agner sticks. Bart De Nolf plays on a recent upright bass made by a german guy, Emanuel Wilfer, in 1979. He uses also a AER bass amp. Thibault Dille uses a Ballone Burini accordion, and on stage he has two Audiotechnica Pro 35 microphones. ... and John Ruocco plays on a ... Ruocco clarinet ! Yes, this guy has a taiwanese company making clarinets for him with his name on it ! Cool isn't it ?
